Erdoğan slams terrorism in the name of Islam --- Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has denounced a recent terrorist attack by al-Qaeda-linked al-Shabaab at a Kenyan mall, saying Islam does not allow the killing of innocent civilians. --- “They claim they are doing this in the name of Islam. Give me a break. Allah does not give anyone the authority to kill defenseless people,” Erdoğan said during a speech on Saturday, without naming al-Shabaab or al-Qaeda. “Killing one person is no different than killing the whole of humanity. This is what our religion asserts.” --- Erdoğan also condemned an attack on a church in Peshawar, Pakistan, last Sunday that killed 85 worshippers. “We condemn every inhumane act of violence in Iraq, Yemen, Lebanon and Syria,” he said. “Terrorism has no religion, and we can never accept the words Muslim and terrorist uttered together. … Those who attempt to bring these two words together to flame Islamophobia are racist and discriminatory. Those who distinguish between good and bad terrorists are as criminal and monstrous as terrorists themselves.” todayszaman

Release of Decades-Old Death Lists Stirs Anger and Grief in Afghanistan --- KABUL, Afghanistan — So many people were buried alive by bulldozers in the barren fields around the Pul-e-Charkhi Prison on Kabul’s outskirts that guilty soldiers later said it was like an earthquake as their victims tried to claw their way out. --- Thirty-four years later, the names and details of nearly 5,000 of those victims — arrested, tortured and killed by the Afghan Communist government in 1978 and 1979 — have resurfaced, catalogued in detailed records released this month. --- Although the so-called death lists were originally compiled by the Afghan government and languished, unreleased, for decades, they were unearthed by Dutch investigators and have been published on the Web site of the Netherlands national prosecutor’s office. - NYTimes

We waited for my uncle for 35 years. Now I finally know what happened --- Now, after decades of uncertainty, I have found out the truth. The Dutch authorities has released a list of 5,000 Afghans who disappeared between 1978 and 1979. My uncle was on the list: number 1416. It took several attempts to locate him, since they had misspelled his name. The sloppiness reminded me that evil, after all, is banal. --- As the day went on, more and more of my friends and acquaintances located the names of disappeared fathers and uncles, cousins and friends. We discovered lies and inaccuracies. Secular people had been falsely accused of being religious fanatics. Innocent people had been wrongly accused of being criminals. --- I learned a lesson today – that without facts being established, there's no freedom from the prison of history. Without justice, there's no chance for peace. Afghan cannot do this alone – we need the world to stand by our side, to guide us, support us and in doing so, allow us to become part of a more civilised future. - Guardian, Nushin Arbabzadah

The most notable legal effort since the overthrow of the Taliban in 2001 was a sweeping amnesty law passed in 2008 that angered many survivors and relatives of victims. - Guardian

- آرمان ملی, MORE.....
