Afghan Death Sparks Protest - WSJ

The dead man turned out to be the brother-in-law of Safya Sidiqi, a member of the Afghan parliament. It was his family's compound that was raided, Ms. Sidiqi said, calling his death "barbaric and unjustifiable."

Ms. Sidiqi also said that during the raid, soldiers blindfolded the 15 people in the house, including women and children, and pulled them outside. The soldiers then sent in dogs to sniff through the house, she said in a telephone interview.

"They disgraced our pride and our religion by letting their dogs sniff the holy Koran, our food and the kichen," Ms. Siddiqi said.
