Honoring the creation of mothers - The Seattle Times

Another shining example of creation are mothers. It is hard to beat the unconditional love of a mother. Mothers are teachers, disciplinarians, nurses, therapists, protectors and so much more. If we want to see a tangible expression of God's love, all we need do is find a good mother.

While the second Sunday in May is the official Hallmark day to honor mothers, we need not be limited to giving honor just one day a year.

On Mother's Day, we can honor not only our birth mothers but those "other mothers" who have nurtured and loved us alongside our birth mothers or when our birth mothers were unable to give what we needed. Many a big sister, auntie, neighbor and friend stepped into the gap and offered open arms and listening ears when mother was not available. To those other mothers, we also owe a debt of thanks.

To all our mothers and others mothers, we thank you for allowing the light of God's grace and mercy to shine through you. Mothers and love make the world go 'round. Happy Mother's Day. - Honoring the creation of mothers
