Trump to nominate Turkey envoy for ambassador to Afghanistan - thehill

President Trump on Thursday named America's ambassador to Turkey, John Bass, to be the next ambassador to Afghanistan.

The move comes just days after President Trump was briefed at the Pentagon by top Defense Department officials on the ongoing fight against the Islamic State in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Bass, who has served as America's ambassador to Turkey since he was appointed by former President Obama in 2014, is also a former ambassador to Georgia. An official White House press release on Thursday described Bass as a lifelong fighter against terrorism.

"Mr. Bass has spent much of the past decade supporting Federal Government efforts to mobilize allies and marshal resources to combat terrorism and instability in Iraq, Syria, and Southwest Asia.  He has served at six U.S. Missions overseas and in senior leadership positions at the Department of State," a White House press release read. - More
