Statement by the Government of Afghanistan On the Situation in the Region - president.gov

In view of the current developments in the region and in Yemen, the government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan consulted with Afghanistan’s National Council of Ulemma, political and Jihadi leaders as well as the national security council who all in a consensus stressed that peace and security in the region was one of the top priorities and that all efforts be centered in creating an environment of brotherhood among the countries especially the Muslim nations. As a result, the government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan declares its position as follows:

1.    The Muslim nation and government of Afghanistan have enjoyed deep historical and religious ties with Saudi Arabia and calls it an Islamic duty of every Muslim to protect the territorial integrity of the two holy mosques. The Afghan government therefore stands with all power by the brotherly government and people of Saudi Arabia in defending the sacred territory should there be any threat.
2.     The government of Islamic republic of Afghanistan strongly believes in the principle of democracy and supports the legitimate government of Yemen.
3.    The government of Afghanistan, having been through detrimental consequences of the war and insecurity, hopes that the crisis be resolved peacefully and thus calls on all Islamic nations and its leaders to work with the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation as well as the UN toward a peaceful resolution of the issue.
