What’s Next for Afghanistan and Why It Matters --- A week of public events at USIP will explore some of the economic, social, political and security issues for Afghanistan’s new leadership. On October 14, in an event co-hosted with the East-West Institute, a panel of experts examines Afghanistan’s impending economic crisis and how the country can increase its potential for investment and growth by engaging more with the wider region. On Wednesday October 15, Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Carl Levin will discuss the future of U.S.-Afghanistan relations in a conversation moderated by USIP Board Chairman and former National Security Advisor Steve Hadley. The week concludes with a conference on the evolving role of media and technology in Afghanistan, with prominent Afghan journalists reflecting on how new and old media shaped the 2014 elections and how these tools will affect the country’s democratic future. -- Read More, USIP,
