Exhausted' Karzai insists he will retire - FT

Hamid Karzai, Afghanistan’s president, on Wednesday said he was exhausted and had no intention of flouting the constitution by remaining in office beyond the end of his second term next year.

Diplomats in Kabul say Mr Karzai fears for his safety and that of his family after he retires, while his opponents say they suspect he will try to cling to power despite being obliged to step down after a presidential election in April 2014. -
