Afghan Government Drops Corruption Charges Against an Aide to the President - nytimes

KABUL, Afghanistan — The Afghan government has dropped all charges in the controversial corruption case against an aide to President Hamid Karzai, said the official whose office oversaw the case.

Mr. Farhang, in an interview, said he was being made a scapegoat because he was now out of government and had little political power. “The international community is really serious about the issue of corruption in government now, which is a good thing,” he said. “They can’t accuse some powerful people in government who are corrupt, so now they go after someone who is not related to anyone.” -- Afghans Drop Charges Against Aide
