Afghanistan Cites Abuse in Moves Against Agencies - nytimes

KABUL, Afghanistan — Afghan officials on Monday sought to shift the blame onto their Western critics in an escalating dispute over presidential meddling in the arrest of a top aide on corruption charges.

“Our international partners provided the basis for some people in Afghanistan to become unbelievably rich,” Mr. Omer said. “Some of them have become an economic mafia in Afghanistan. There are people who are just 30 years old and have hundreds of millions of dollars and this is something that everybody knows about.”
