"There is no political strategy for Afghanistan" - former EU Envoy‎

Speaking at a conference on Afghanistan, the former European Union Special Representative for Afghanistan, Francesc Vendrell, spoke out against the inactivity of the Kabul government and Western attempts for fight the Taliban led insurgency. He said that there had been no improvement since last October and that "the EU and US went along with a massive fraud during the elections," and added that because of this, "The political leg of the strategy is missing.

He said this left President Hamid Karzai "with little legitimacy or support", and that "Kabul has no intention of carrying out reforms that are essential for a counter-insurgency strategy to work."
