Afghanistan strategy scrutinized at Congressional hearing - washingtonpost

Some Democrats were skeptical of the Afghan government's reliability as a partner in the effort, while Republicans criticized Obama for setting July 2011 as a time frame for beginning to withdraw U.S. forces from Afghanistan.

The top Republican on the committee, Sen. John McCain (Ariz.), said Obama "made the right decision" to send 30,000 more American troops, but he expressed strong opposition to setting what he called an "arbitrary" date to begin the withdrawal in July 2011.
