McCain critical of US performance in Afghanistan

Senator John McCain, the 2008 Republican presidential candidate, says the performance of the US military in Afghanistan lags behind the show of force it displayed in Iraq.

Sen. McCain said McChrystal had to ask for as many troops as he wanted saying he feared the commander be pressured into asking for less. The pressure, he said, was not "necessarily from the president. …I think it's from the people around him and others that I think don't want to see a significant increase in our troops' presence there.''
