Pashtuns caught in another proxy war‎ -

Afghanistan's civilian majority are resented for their links to government and the Taliban, although both bring them only harm

Pashtun civilians are under attack from various directions. Internally, the leaders of indigenous minorities, who have been empowered in the years of war, feel resentful towards the Pashtuns because they belong to the sole ethnicity that has been running the country since the beginning of Afghanistan.

Needless to say, not all Pashtuns are Talibs and a distinction has to be made between civilians and fighters

Hence, 27 April 1992 was not a day of victory. It was simply a new page in Afghanistan's struggle to come to terms with its own difficult history and complex identity. The victory is yet to come, but to get there, Afghanistan first needs to overcome its obsession with ethnicised politics.
