When the US went to war in Afghanistan the operation was given the code name Infinite Justice. This changed to Enduring Freedom after it was pointed out that the original name could be seen as offensive to Muslims – infinite justice emanating from God, not the US army. With hindsight, this was a mistake: even the totally illiterate understand the concept of justice at the local level, but freedom is a tricky concept in a traditional tribal society.
