State Funeral for Afghan Leader Slain in ’78 Coup

“Today with the burial of martyred Daoud Khan, the first president of Afghanistan, we wish that all our pain, suffering and wounds be buried as well,” Mohammad Nadir Naim, a grandson of Mr. Daoud Khan, said at the burial site. “We should move towards peace and unity tomorrow.”
